Occupational Outlook Quarterly, Spring 2009 by Liming, Drew
In restaurants, the food’s the thing. But the drinks, presentation, service, and ambience are important, too. And it’s up to restaurant workers to provide diners with a square meal that’s well rounded.
The hard work of the kitchen, bar, and dining-room staff gets food and drink from menu to mouth. Some of the more visible workers may include waiters and waitresses (also known as servers), busboys, hosts and hostesses, bartenders, and sommeliers. Less visible restaurant staff includes chefs, cooks, managers, dishwashers, and janitorial and office staff. All have a role in helping to make a diner’s experience pleasant.
This article begins with an overview of the restaurant industry. It then looks at four occupations-cooks, executive chefs, servers, and bartenders-and describes their job duties; employment, wages, and outlook; and skills and training. You’ll learn what working in a restaurant is like, including its challenges and rewards. Suggested resources for additional information on restaurant careers are at the end.
The restaurant industry
The restaurant industry doesn’t just feed people; it also employs them. In fact, the food and drinking places industry, as defined by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), had more than 9 million workers in 2007, making this industry one of the largest employers in the country.
The food and drinking places industry includes snack bars, fine dining-and everything in between

Cons
Online school competence
There are many online schools to choose from. The question is: would you be able to land on a job after you have spent all your time and money on your chosen online school? One advice is: do research on the competency of several online schools and consider the credit they can give once you step into the working world.
Personal competence
Can you learn on your own or should you require a board and a talking professor to absorb the lesson? There are some students who are better studying alone. There are some who are not. If you think you are capable of learning without the need of the actual classroom discussion, then you can consider online schooling.
Environment cooperation
Is your home fit for studying? Can you concentrate with all the destructions you can get in your home? Many homes are not fit to become a school.

But, some approaches use alcohol and glycerin. The reason for the alcohol is to dry the brushed on gel so it stays on teeth. With all of the saliva and movement that goes on in your mouth, it does not stay put anyway. The alcohol can actually cause bad breath and is bad for your gums. Then you have the glycerin based products. Glycerin is harmless on it own. But mixed with the peroxide it actually dries out the tooth enamel and literary causes the sensitivity that so many have with teeth whitening.
Whether you choose a professional or do it yourself method, look at more than just the cost of the desired results.

There are many curriculum choices you can make. You can purchase pre-packaged curriculum, make your own curriculum, or you could even teach a combination of both. Some parents prefer to focus their teachings on their religious beliefs. However, it is important to keep an open mind and remember that your children are their own people and they should be taught about the world from many different perspectives. Remember that there is no ?right? way to teach your children because the ?right? way for one child may not be ?right? for another. It is important to be flexible and change your curriculum to tailor to your children as you discover their individual requirements as they grow.
So what is Pre-Packaged Curriculum anyway? Well Pre-Packaged, “school in a box”, or “all-in-one” Curriculum are comprehensive education packages that cover many subjects (usually an entire year worth).

Closely tied to interest is desire and here?s where emotions and other sensory information come into play. You may have gained the attention of the potential customer by running a commercial during the 6pm newscast (you bought that more expensive time slot because you know your target market gets the news this way). She?s in the market for a new car (women make 80% or more of the choices in this product category), so it shouldn?t be too hard to generate interest. Does the commercial help her see herself driving that vehicle? Do you use a woman in her age category, who resembles her in other ways? Is it an attractive vehicle that won?t make her feel older than she is? Does the color appeal to women In her demographic and psychographic categories? If you can answer yes to many or most of those questions, you may have generated some desire for your product.
You?ll never know what made her stop in your showroom (or store, or office) unless your staff is trained to ask questions about her motivation.

We found the man at the bar, and he pretended not to hear a word we said. He just stared at his drink. Everyone else heard us, though, and they were all his friends.
A crowd began to form as Jason hooked up to the car. They made rude comments and watched us, but then, as the car was pulled out, it did hit the wall, and the turn-signal light cover was broken. The crowd went wild, yelling and threatening us. Unfortunately, we had to stop right there to hook the car up properly.
I grabbed my baseball bat and ran into the bar to call the police. Afterwards, I ran back out, waving the bat around. By this time, Jason was on top of the tow truck, with the angry mob circling below him. Someone had thrown a beer bottle, and we would later discover that in the chaos my brother lost a toolbox full of expensive tools.
The police arrived quickly, and added threw their own insults our way (nobody likes a repo man), but they kept the mob at bay while we hooked up. At least there was no fist fight, and nobody pulled a gun on us, or fired shots over our heads.

Many people are allergic to gold, silver, or platinum, or more commonly zinc or nickel, which are used as alloys in most jewelry. You don?t have to worry about this with titanium, because titanium jewelry is hypoallergenic. This means that you will no longer have to deal with rashes and discolored skin from wearing your jewelry.
Titanium jewelry also has the advantage of being non-corrosive. Saltwater, chlorine, cleaning compounds; these things can seriously damage gold and platinum. With titanium jewelry you don?t have to worry about this. You no longer have to take your jewelry off just to do the dishes.
One of the best things about titanium jewelry is that it is
exotic. You don?t want to be like everybody else, wearing heavy gold rings and cheesy gold bracelets. No, you want to showcase your individuality! And the best way to do this is with titanium jewelry.

People get annoyed with ?junk faxing?

People get annoyed with ?junk faxing? because not only are they not interested in the message, but they have to pay for the paper! She could have called in advance, spoke with my assistant, Tricia, found out what we do and who we mail to, and then, perhaps have tailored one page of info targeting my specific interests.
The Opening. Beginning with a reactive question about whether someone received anything you sent invites disaster. Even if you do send something in advance, don’t make that the basis for your call. Do ensure that it piques enough curiosity so they’ll remember something about it during your opening.
For example, ?I’m Pat Davis with ABC Lists. My purpose for calling is that we specialize in helping mailers get profitable results by providing responsive lists for their offers. I understand you target inside sales departments and specifically look for proven sales training product and service buyers, is that right? If I caught you at a good time, I’d like to ask a few questions to see what lists we might be able to recommend that would work well for you.?
